7040 Steering Cylinder

The 7040 steering cylinder is a durable, solid cylinder that offers strength and flexibility in sizing and rudder movement for marine vessels, available in balanced and unbalanced versions.

For balanced, the 7040 has the following torque, stroke and displacement ranges, assuming a single cylinder at 1,000 PSI (69 bar) at a 35 degree rudder angle / 45 degree rudder angle.

Torque:
428 to 869 lbs. ft. (57 to 120 kg/m)  /  298 to 608 lbs. ft. (41 to 84 kg/m)
Stroke: 5.5″ to 10″ (139.7 mm to 254 mm)
Displacement: 8 in3 to 14.6 in3 (131 cm3 to 239 cm3

For unbalanced, the 7040 has the following torque, stroke and displacement ranges, assuming two cylinders at 1,000 PSI (69 bar) at a 35 degree rudder angle / 45 degree rudder angle.

Torque:
 1,056 to 1,921 lbs. ft. (146 to 266 kg/m)  /  739 to 1,344 lbs. ft. (102 to 186 kg/m)
Stroke: 5.5″ to 10″ (140 mm to 254 mm)
Displacement: 17.8 in3 to 32.3 in3 (292 cm3 to 529 cm3)

Kobelt requires a steering gear torque or rudder calculation be done before sizing or ordering any steering system, to ensure the correct mix of pressure, displacement, stroke, parts and torque.
